The 2009 Everett Albers Chautauqua, Lincoln, Land, and Liberty, is coming to Bottineau July 27-29, a program of the North Dakota Humanities Council sponsored by MSU-Bottineau and Bottineau Community Theatre, among many others. Daytime and evening programs include Dr. George Frein portraying Abraham Lincoln in Abraham Lincoln the Writer, Dr. D. Jerome Tweton portraying Governor William Jayne in The Homestead Act and North Dakota, Dr. Carrol Peterson portraying Walt Whitman and examining Whitman’s Lincoln poems, and Charles Everett Pace portraying Frederick Douglass and presenting Frederick Douglass: Manhood and Black Soldiers in the Civil War.  The Chautauqua also features musical entertainment including Diana Bullinger, Highway 43 and Taylor Falcon, as well as ice cream socials sponsored by First National Bank, and concludes with a Q & A session with the four scholars.  The Bottineau Technology center will host Chautauqua Reading Group Discussions moderated by Dr. Gary Albrightson and Mr. Mike Porter of MSU-Bottineau on July 8, 15 & 22 at 7:00 p.m.  Watch throughout Bottineau for merchant window displays, Lincoln penny sales and baked goods, era museum displays, books and articles for review and purchase, a Lincoln Kitchen Garden, and Chautauqua information booths and promotions.  For more information, please contact: Bottineau Chamber of Commerce, 519 Main Street, (701) 228-3849, email: bcc@utma.com or on the web at www.bottineau.org
